September 16-18, 2011
The Dogwood Winnies had five (5) coaches for the 2011 Virginia State WIT Rally, which was hosted by the Blue Ridge Winnies at Endless Cavern on the side of Massanutten Mountain overlooking the Shenandoah Valley .
There were a total of 94 coaches attending the State Rally. The Dogwoods were responsible for parking, but not the coaches as the campground handled that. Since the parking lot at the Recreation Hall was limited, we were in charge of parking cars. Mary Wright came up with a parking outline, and we were directing traffic like pros for each event. Rain or shine we were there. There was a social hour Thursday evening for everyone to get acquainted with new and old friends. After the social hour, many enjoyed playing Bingo.
Friday morning, Opening Ceremonies was conducted with Butch and Becky Moore, Eastern Area WIT Representatives giving a talk. Afterwards Flea Market and Raffles opened and seminars (WIT Tours & Rallies, Dri Wash-N-Guard) were held during the day. Dennis Erb with Camping World RV Sales, Roanoke , VA had new units on site for touring. The Dogwoods sold 50/50 tickets with their portion being donated to the Alzheimer Research Foundation. Friday evening a delicious dinner was catered by Country Kitchens. Entertainment for the night was Jim Lloyd & Trevor McKinze with fiddling and singing. During intermission door prizes were drawn, many prizes provided by McGeorge's Rolling Hills RV and Reines RV.
Saturday morning, a large country breakfast was provided by Country Kitchens and sponsored by Mike Butler & Five Star Tuning. During the day there were all different fun activities, games, Chinese auction, arts & crafts entries, and seminars from Five Star Tuning, Scentsy (Wickless Candles), Ft. Valley Nursery (fall gardening tips) and Dri Wash-N-Guard. The Boyettes provided a nice lunch for the Dogwoods with potential members Richard and Barbara Smith joining us. Afterwards, we held our Chapter Meeting and installed new officers for 2012; Mary Wright, President; Harold Moyer, V-President; and Annette Boyette, Treasure. Donna Blanks, Secretary will be installed at a later date. Saturday night's dinner was catered by Country Kitchens and sponsored by Camping World, Roanoke , VA. “Back Woods Country” attire was worn by many with judging of best man, woman, youth, and club. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the talented Craig Country Boys band with door prizes being drawn during intermission.
Sunday morning continental breakfast by Bill & Dolly Weidner (Dri Wash-N-Guard) was followed by a church service. The State's General Meeting was held and the new state officers were installed; Phil Hannaford, President; Ron Colbow, V-President; Pat Montgomery, Secretary; and Ron Doershug, Treasurer. Next year's rally will be held at Bethpage Campground in Urbanna , VA , hosted by the Peninsula Winnies, theme “Pirates of the Rappahannock ”. Dogwoods will be responsible for door prizes.
