DOGWOOD'S NEWS MISSIVE
Glen Maury Park
Buena Vista , VA
September 18-21, 2008
Many of the Dogwoods arrived early for the rally on Thursday. Some enjoyed a round of golf at the nearby Vista Links. That evening, there was a pot luck dinner and everyone looked forward to a weekend packed with activities. The entertainment was fun, there were two ladies playing folk music, keeping time with wooden shoes and an electric violin.
Friday morning the opening ceremonies were held. Dick and Micki Dodge, the Eastern WIT reps joined us and spoke about things going on at Winnebago. Following the ceremony, there was a bus trip to Lexington to see the historic places, and an on-site tour of the Paxton house. The Country Kitchen outdid themselves as usual with a delicious dinner. The students from James Madison University put on one great Steel Drum concert. After the concert, they invited everyone up to try out the drums, and the stage was packed with Winnies beating on steel drums!
Saturday morning there was a wonderful southern breakfast. Then the day was full of activities. There was an Arts & Crafts competition in the pavilion. The WIT store opened so people could by their official WIT goodies. There were several seminars held throughout the day. The Dogwoods squeezed in a quick meeting at noon and had lunch. The new officers were sworn in, and the outgoing ones were presented with beautiful personalized parting gifts. After the meeting, the group rushed off to the afternoon Ice Cream social.
Being in charge of games, the Dogwoods set up a tent and oversaw Beanbag Baseball, Washer Toss, and Ladder Golf. Winners were presented with ribbons at dinner. The friendship walk was held later in the day. For dinner, many members dressed up in glitzy costumes for the rally theme "Putting on the Glitz". After another fabulous dinner, the entertainment was the Laissez Fare Dixie Land Band. More fun doorprizes were given out.
Sunday morning there was a continental breakfast, followed by a church service. The general meeting was held and the new state officers were installed. After that, everyone said their good byes and packed up to go home. Thanks to the Cardinals for hosting a great 2008 Rally.
