DOGWOOD WINNIES NEWS
BETHPAGE CAMP RESORT
URBANNA, VA
SEPTEMBER 14-17, 2006
STATE RALLY

Eleven coaches attended the State Rally in Urbanna. Many members arrived on Thursday to begin preparation for working the door prizes. The Peninsula Winnies provided a hot dog dinner for the early arrivals at the pavilion.

Friday morning, donuts and bagels were offered at the pavilion. Throughout the day, there were crafts, seminars and the opening ceremony took place at 11 am. Following the ceremony, there was a hospitality hour with everyone bringing a snack to share. It was a great turnout.

The Dogwoods started early Friday working on goodie bags and preparing for the distribution of the door prizes. Thanks so much to Boyd and Shirley Johnson for working so hard on obtaining nearly 80 prizes! The Dogwoods cataloged everything and distributed half of the prizes on Friday night, and the remainder Saturday night, after the entertainment.

Friday night, a BBQ dinner was served, followed by the entertainment. After the music, Harold Moyer and Mike Schuler had fun passing out door prizes, while Brenda McMillan pulled the numbers from a jar. After the work was done, everyone gathered for a night cap at the Schulers under the lit palm tree and toucan.

Saturday morning, a pancake breakfast was served. Throughout the day, there were more seminars and games. The Dogwoods held a flea market at the Dance's coach.

The Mills provided a delicious clam chowder and sandwich lunch. The Dogwoods held their meeting after lunch beside the Dances coach until the noise got bad and they moved behind the coach. During the meeting, the new officers were sworn in. The plans were laid out for the State Meeting and many volunteered for committees. The campout will raise money for Cystic Fibrosis and will consist of selling food and playing games through out the day. The dinner will be a pot luck soup and stew contest, more information to follow.

Some test drove a new dice game, LCR, in the afternoon before getting ready for dinner.

Dinner was beef tips and noodles. Everyone dressed up in their western wear to dinner and entertainment. Following the entertainment, the rest of the door prizes were given out, and also all raffles and 50/50's were awarded. After it was all over, the Dogwoods breathed a sigh of relief back at the Schulers coach and shared some special "washer fluid."

Sunday morning, everyone met for a continental breakfast followed by a brief church service. The State Meeting was held after services and the new officers were sworn in. Our own Harold Moyer is now VP of the State! Mike Schuler announced the agenda for the State November campout at American Heritage in Williamsburg, to benefit Cystic Fibrosis.

Everyone packed up slowly Sunday morning and said their goodbyes until October.
