Spot and Patch parade around in the Dog Parade Contest.

It was a hot campout this August at Virginia Beach! Seven Dogwood coaches came for the State campout to support the Virginia Beach SPCA.

Friday afternoon, the whole state club gathered in the air conditioned clubhouse to enjoy snacks and beverages. After happy hour, some went out to eat and some stayed back at the campsite. Later in the evening, the State held a card bingo game to start the fundraiser. Some of our club went for bingo and some took the trolly to the oceanfront. Upon arrival, there was a big surfing bash going on and it was fun to partake in the festivities and stick our feet in the ocean.

Saturday morning, the Coasters made a breakfast of pancakes and sausage. After breakfast, the day was packed with meetings and planning for the rally. After the general meeting was held, Amy from the SPCA came and brought her beautiful black lab Sake, who had quite a good time romping around in the room as she explained all about their wonderful organization. Members of each club were generous and donated two pickup truck loads of supplies and over $1,000 in cash donations.
A group photo was taken that will be sent to WIT.

After the speaker, the Dogwoods held their meeting back at the campsite under the new canopies. It was an extremely hot day and everyone was looking forward to cooling off in the pool after the meeting. At 2:00 there was a cat photo contest, and at 2:30, the doggie parade. It was cute to see all the dogs dressed up and paraded around. To vote, people dropped money in cans that corresponded with each dog. There were 14 entries, two of which were "dog"woods. They were Spot and Patch. Patch couldn't wait to get out of his sweater, and Spot wasn't too happy wearing a tutu. But it was a fun time for all.

As soon as the dog parade ended, some cooled off in the swimming pool while others headed for the AC in their motorhomes. For dinner, each club decorated their table in an animal theme. Everyone brought some sort of salad and a dessert. There was a great selection of salads and no one left
hungry. After dinner, the results of the contests and silent auction were given, and a lot of money had been raised throughout the day. Then the evening was finished off with the chicken dance and other fun party dancing.

Sunday morning the group met for muffins and donuts, followed by a small church service. Everyone said their goodbyes until the next campout, which will be the Rally, on Sept. 21-23rd at the Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach.
