Eleven
coaches attended the State Campout in Urbanna.
It started out as a wet weekend at Bethpage for
the campout. It poured down rain and turned some
campsites into lakes very quickly. The state social
was at 4 pm and everyone sloshed to the pavilion
to enjoy snacks and drinks. The Schulers drove
the dune buggy holding an umbrella over it since
it has no roof. It didn't matter, they got soaked.
After
the social, it cleared up enough for the Moyers
to cook hot dogs for everyone. After dinner, a
few games of pass the trash were played and every
one was having a good time until a family of four
skunks decided to spoil the party.
Saturday
morning, a delicious breakfast of sausage gravy
was served by the hosts the Peninsula Winnies.
There were quite a few meetings that morning,
so there wasn't much time for play.
The
Dogwoods held their meeting at 3 pm at the Moyers
coach. The Dogwoods got the chapter of excellence
award, and pins were handed out. Donna Preissner
won the 50/50 for $14.00.
Following
the meeting, the Moyers presented the Schulers
with a beautiful birthday cake, since both of
their birthdays fell on this campout.
Dinner
was pot luck at the pavilion with the whole state.
Unfortunatly, by the time the Dogwoods got in
line, there wasn't much meat left. Fortunately
there was a lot of other things to choose from.
Gene Veler won the state 50/50, worth about $87.00.
Mike Schuler commented that he should call Dominoes
and order pizzas.
After
dinner, the Dogwoods went back to the Moyers for
more Pass the Trash. There was a lit up palm tree
and animated toucan to light up the campsite while
games were played. The group listened to music
until about 11, when the darn skunks showed up
again to run everyone off!
Sunday morning, everyone met for a continental
breakfast followed by a brief church service.
Then said their goodbyes until the rally in September.
The rally will be held again at Bethpage, September
16-18.
