Group gathers around for the chapter meeting.

It was a large turnout for the July campout at Rainbow Acres. The hosts set up a nice picnic area with screenrooms for the weekend activities. Many members arrived early on Friday and played a few rounds of washer toss while the rest of the group came in. The hosts provided a fish fry Friday night with everyone pitching in side dishes.

Saturday morning everyone gathered for a delicious country breakfast and the chapter meeting followed. Thanks to the hard work of the flag committee, the new Dogwood Winnies flag was presented to the group. Talented members Cornelia Mills, Donna Preissner, Pat Veler and Brenda McMillan got together and created a beautiful flag out of the old vests that some members had donated. The vests were covered with history – patches from rallys gone by and other WIT events from over many years. What a great way to remember the past with all these memories. The flag was embroidered with our charter date of September, 1982. The flag will be presented at the State Rally in September. After the meeting, Harold Moyer led everyone in singing the "Winnie Song" that the Boyettes brought back from GNR. (see below).

After the meeting some members relaxed while others went to the beach to play. We were all delighted when former members Horace and Mabel Brock showed up for a day visit. Then we were surprised again when more former members showed up, Bob and Val Terry and their friends Ben and Donna Blanks. The group had a great time reminiscing and catching up on news. Horace brought his new washer toss game, which proved to be rather difficult to play, but fun anyway.

The group enjoyed a late afternoon happy hour while the guests were busy preparing a big shrimp boil. Six tables were set up, each with their own pan full of shrimp, potatoes and corn, and hardly a drop was left at the end of the dinner. After dinner, everyone sat around and chatted well into the evening and waited for the safe return of one of the members who had left to attend a reunion in NC.

Sunday morning everyone gathered for breakfast and leisurely packed up to head home. The next campout will be the State campout at Buena Vista . Visit the website for the agenda and directions.

"The Winnie Song"
Sung to the tune of "In the Good Old Summertime"

In the Winnie next to mine
In the Winnie next to mine
They go to bed at half past eight
And don't get up to nine
They pull the shades
And dim the lights
Now that's a very good sign
There's hanky panky going on
In the Winnie next to mine.

In the Winnie next to mine
It was back in ninety nine
It pulled right next to me again
And everything seemed fine
They pulled the shades
And dimmed the light
Now that's a very good sign
Of course they're somewhat older now
They're watching channel nine.
