POCAHONTAS STATE PARK

JUNE 16-18

It was a hot weekend at Pocahontas for the campout. Several members arrived on Thursday and enjoyed an impromptu get together and tried sushi for the first time. (no raw fish!)

Everyone else arrived Friday and got together for social hour around 5. Former members the Terry's and the Brocks came to the campout. It was great to catch up. Hotdogs, beans and chips were enjoyed for dinner. After dinner, it was cool enough to sit around a roaring campfire.

Saturday morning, a delicious breakfast was served. Guests Erin & Laura McMillan showed everyone how to make their breakfast burritos, and every bit was eaten. After breakfast, the meeting was held in the shade at the Johnsons coach. After the meeting, some of the group took off on a hike down to the lake.

At lunch, Mike Schuler started cutting up and serving the meat he had smoked for 12 hours. Everyone enjoyed a bbq lunch. Marilyn Chambers drove in for the day and had lunch with the group. In the hot afternoon, several games of washer toss were played in the shade, while some went swimming in the huge pool. The campsites were very spacious, so there was a lot of room for activities.

The remainder of the meat was served at dinner, and everyone contributed a side dish. After dinner, a large game of pass the trash was played, followed by watching racing at the Johnsons coach.

Sunday morning, everyone met for a continental breakfast, and sat around and chatted until the sun got to be too much. Everyone pitched in and helped clean up the hosts campsites, then said their goodbyes until the July meeting.

The July meeting will be held at Rockahock in Lanexa, VA.
