COZY ACRES CAMPGROUND
POWHATAN, VA
November 9-11, 2007 (State Meeting)

It was a cold weekend for the last campout of the season. The Tidewater Tascas hosted and did a fundraiser for Parkinsons disease.

Friday evening, the state group gathered around 4 pm for cocktails and snacks. The campground provided large propane heaters, which helped keep everyone warm.

Saturday morning, the Tascas put together a fun breakfast. It was called an omelette in a bag. Each person got a ziplock bag with their name on it and filled it with eggs and all the fixins. Then the bags were dropped in boiling water and cooked. Out of the bag came a perfectly cooked omelet! What a neat idea. After breakfast, the state meetings were held, with the general meeting at 11. There was a lot to talk about, so the meeting ran right up until lunch time.

For lunch, it was another creative idea. The lunch was called a "walking taco". It was a fundraiser and a lot of fun. Each person got a bag of doritos that was cut along the side and the contents crumbled up. Then they got burger, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sourcream served on the chips, in the bag. It was delicious!

After lunch, we had a speaker, Susan Dietrich, from the American Parkinsons Disease Foundation come and talk about Parkinsons disease and pass out literature. Following the meeting, there were some games to play as part of the fundraiser. Around 3 pm, the Dogwoods held a short meeting in the barn, followed by happy hour.

For dinner, each club dressed up a table with a fall theme and provided soups, chilis and desserts. It was a free-range roam and there was so much to choose from, no one left hungry! There are a lot of creative cooks in the state!

Following dinner, there was a real live auction. Many people brought donations to be auctioned off and everything sold! The auctioneer did a great job of keeping everyone interested in the event and participation was great.

The total raised for the weekend was over $700. Thanks to the Tascas for hosting and everyone for great participation.

Sunday morning the group met for danish and juice and said their goodbyes for the 2007 camping season. The next three meetings will all be dinner meetings, camping season to start in March 2008. Details and schedules to come.
