Mac Parish & Candy Swanson
(Witt Freeman came in to visit for a little while)
Mike Schuler called the meeting to order. Cornelia Mills led in the pledge of allegiance.
Leigh Anne Schuler read the minutes of the last meeting. There were some corrections to the minutes:
Cornelia Mills stated that the state dues are always paid in Sept. She wrote a check for $105 and gave it to the state treasurer at the rally.
Dan & Gail Young went to Edna Abbot's visitation, and talked to Nancye Abbot on the phone.
The officers were sworn in DURING the meeting, and not after.
After the corrections, Dan Young made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Sue Nicollela and motion carried.
Leigh Anne Schuler also read a statement from the new treasurer, Duncan Mills, that the books had been resolved.
She also read a nice note from Chauncey Ayers thanking the Dogwoods for their hard work on the table decorations and that they were fabulous.
Duncan Mills read the treasurer's report. Balance on hand as of Oct. 20 was $1332.41. Leroy Wright made a motion to accept the treasurers report, seconded by John McMillan, motion carried. Duncan announced that he has set up online banking to make it easier to keep track of things. He will provide the login and password to the president. Gail Young asked what the minimum balance is to keep from paying fees, and Mary Wright assured her that we have a totally free account, that she set up some time ago. Dan Young also remarked that we are not legally a "non profit" organization.
Duncan also reminded everyone that the dues are due by the end of October.
Health and Welfare report:
Mike Schuler was suffering from a reaction to either poison oak or mangos, and had a bad rash.

The December dinner will be at Mary wrights daughers house, at 3501 Seminary Avenue in Richmond. Time is 5 pm for cocktails. Formal attire please. The date is Sunday, December 9.
The new signup book for 2008 was presented and everyone is asked to please pick out which month they would like to host, and provide a place and time as soon as possible.
Gail Young made a motion to hold the April campout at the NC Rally in Cape Hatteras. John McMillan seconded it, motion passed.
Unfinished business: Because the state has raised their dues from $1 per coach to $5 per coach, Mary Wright made a motion to raise the Dogwood dues from $20 to $25. Sue Nicolella seconded. The discussion followed. Dan Young asked what the money was being spent for, and that they didn't have the right to raise the dues. Because it was being called an assessment, Duncan Mills suggested we call ours an assessment as well, then vote against the State in November. Pat Veler felt it was unneccessary to raise our dues, since we have the money to cover it. She felt we didn't need to carry a large bank balance anyway. Gene Veler read from the state constitution that they could have a special assessment only with the treasury was in dire need. Since we do not know the financial picture of the state, the group decided to vote against our group raising our dues, and also to fight the state in November. The motion was voted down unanimously.
New Business:
Dan Young made a motion that the Treasurer would provide a current financial statement to all attendees at each meeting so everyone will have that on file. John McMillan seconded. The motion was voted on and passed. There will be a copy for each member who signed up.
Mary Wright again brought up the Angel tree idea. She suggested a donation of $10 per person to buy gifts for a family in need from the Angel Tree program. She said that for a family of 4-5 children, an amount of $350 - 400 would be needed. We have $60 from the 50/50 raffle earmarked for charity already, so this could go towards the purchase of gifts. She suggested that her and Mary Anne Moyer would shop for the family at the end of November. Gene Veler made a motion that the chapter just go ahead and donate $350 to the fund from our treasury and not ask for individual donations. Dan Young seconded the motion. During further discussion. Gene pointed out that each year we have to make a charity donation in order to receive our chapter of excellence pin. Dan Young also reminded us that the 50/50 from the rally always goes to charity. A vote was taken and it was unanimous that the chapter would go ahead and provide $350 from the treasury for the Angel Tree family. Mary Wright and Mary Anne Moyer will do the shopping before December 1st. If anyone else would like to help them shop, please let us know.
Motorhome experiences:
Dan Young reported that there is recall on the cruise control on Ford 2000 & up. He said they were backordered six months.
Gene Veler had his mirror fall out for the second time. THis time, it didn't get salvaged. He is hoping it will be covered by warranty.. we'll see. He was also having problems with his battery going dead anfter 10-14 days of sitting. He found a new product called a Trickle start that he installed and works well. He also remarked that all the Winnebago diesels already have this part, and that it actually has a winnebago part number on it. So apparently this is not uncommon. The price is around $53.
The Nicollela bought a new Oxygenics showerhead and said that works great, no matter what kind of water pressure you have at the campground.
Thanks to Mac Parrish and Candy Swanson for hosting the campout. Cost was $2 per person, with the money being donated to the Richmond SPCA.
The next campout will be at Cozy Acres in Powhatan. It will be a state meeting, with the Schulers & Mills hosting happy hour after the Dogwoods meeting. The agenda will be posted online.
50/50 winner for $10 was Duncan Mills.
There being no more business, Gail Young made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Gary Harman.
Respectfully submitted
